• Disease Modelling Workshop | DMo2019

 

 INTRODUCTION

We are pleased to announce that the Disease Modelling Workshop 2019 will be on the 22nd – 26th April 2019 which will take place at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. This year in its 6th run, the workshop will be “PROBLEM-DRIVEN” whereby the participants will post transmission dynamics problems and at the end of the workshop, participants will gain answers to their disease modeling problems.


We organised it in such a way as it still holds on the original objective of the workshop, which aims to bring together researchers in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science and Public Health in one platform to share knowledge and current research activities mainly in facilitating the eradication and control of infectious diseases. This Problem-Driven workshop will ensure that the workshop will be more hands-on.


The fees is RM300 which includes food. Workshop materials will be available during the workshop distributed via cloud.


To register, participants must post their problems that they would like to be answered. All participants are required to bring their own data (e.g. date vs. number_of_cases). The richer the data will be better. Participants can attend a preliminary Workshop which focuses on R programming which will be on the 20 April 2019.

Assoc. Prof. Dr Jane Labadin


Associate Professor Dr Jane Labadin

Associate Professor Dr Jane Labadin is a Senior Researcher in the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology. She is currently holding the position as the Director of UNIMAS Publisher. She received her Ph.D. in Computational Mathematics specializing in Fluid Dynamics from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London, UK in 2002. Her Bachelor degree in Applied Mathematics was from the same university in 1995. She obtained her Master in Computation in 1997 from the University of Manchester, Institute of Science and Technology, UK. She is an active researcher where her research interest is generally in computational modeling of dynamical systems which includes infectious disease modeling.

Dr Marc Choisy

Dr Marc Choisy is assigned to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology in Hanoi, where he studies the ecology and evolution of infectious diseases within the joint research unit MIVEGEC. Marc works on infectious diseases using the tools and concepts from ecology and evolutionary biology. This is a new and complementary approach to conventional approaches in epidemiology. His angle of attack is largely theoretical and based on statistical modeling, mathematics and computer science. His research questions are fundamental but often have concrete practical applications in public health. The topics receiving particular interest are the seasonality of epidemics, the spatial dynamics of infectious diseases and interactions between diseases. In Asia, his research activities focus mainly on dengue and influenza.
