When should I arrive?

Participants should arrive at Buduk Nur Village, Ba'kelalan at least one day before the Knowledge Fair commences, which is on 21st October 2019. It is recommended that participants reach Lawas by 20th October 2019. Taxis to their respective hotels are available at the airport, at their own costs.

Accommodation and meals in Lawas

All participants are reminded that they will need to arrange for their own accommodation and meals in Lawas, at their own costs, before and after the event. Recommended hotel: Seri Malaysia. The Secretariat will provide accommodation for participants throughout the duration of the Knowledge Fair ( 22nd - 24th October 2019) and in Ba'Kelalan only.

Journey to Ba'Kelalan

Participants are required to meet at Hotel Seri Malaysia on 21st October 2019 by 6.30 a.m. as all transportation into Ba'Kelalan will depart at the stated time. There will be pit-stops along the journey to Ba'Kalalan and participants can purchase meals or other necessary items along the way. We would also like to inform all participants that the journey into Ba'Kelalan is challenging and bumpy, so participants are reminded to prepare any medication (motion sickness pills or medicated patches) that they will require to ease their journey. Please be reminded that all meals prior to and after the event will be borne by the participants.

Where does the Knowledge Fair take place?

The Knowledge Fair will be organised at the Buduk Nur Village, centrally located in one of the villages areas of Ba'kelalan.

Where will I be accommodated during the Knowledge Fair?

All participants will be housed in one of the many homestays in Ba'Kelalan. All meals will be served at the Main Hall during the event, so kindly proceed to the venue for your breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are also small eateries in Ba'Kelalan, so should participants require meals outside the stipulated times, they are very welcome to sample the local delicacies and treats at these establishments, at their own costs.

When should I depart?

It is expected that participants will depart Buduk Nur Village on 25th October 2019, the day after the closing of the Knowledge Fair. Participants are strongly encouraged to stay throughout the entire duration of the Knowledge Fair events. We will depart Ba'Kelalan via 4WD, so participants are required to gather at Apple Lodge by 5.30 a.m. The expected departure time is 6 a.m. We request that all participants be on time as an early departure will ensure that there will be no problems for those who will be taking flights out of Lawas on the same day.

Liaison Officers in Miri - Ba'Kelalan - Miri

We will have committee members to assist participants at the airports on the following dates: 19th October 2019 (Miri- Ba'Kelalan) 25th October 2019 (Ba'Kelalan - Miri) Please approach our friendly liaison officers should you need any assistance. Our liaison officers can be easily recognised as they will be wearing the official eBKF7 T-shirts.

What should I bring?

We have prepared a thorough checklist of items that participants should bring. Kindly refer to our checklist. Please be reminded that the organizers are not responsible for any loss or damage of personal belongings/ valuables before, during or after the event. Participants are reminded to ensure that all their personal belongings/ valuables are kept safely at all times.

Is it possible to arrive into Ba'Kelalan earlier?

Yes, this is possible, however participants must be aware that this will be entirely on their own costs. The transportation provided by the Secretariat during the Knowledge Fair is restricted only to the dates stated in the programme. Any extensions in Ba'Kelalan will also have to be made on their own arrangements and costs. However, we are happy to provide you with the necessary information on how to reach Ba'Kelalan and also assist you whenever possible. Kindly contact us should you need any help with your travel plans.

What does the fee cover?

The fee covers the following: 1. Return transportation from Lawas to Ba'Kelalan 2. All activities arranged by the secretariat 3. Admission to all workshops 4. Presentations of submitted papers 5. Conference supplies and accompanying materials 6. Meals throughout the Knowledge Fair (Breakfast, lunch and dinner)

Do you offer financial assistance to attend the knowledge fair?

No, the Knowledge Fair is an entirely non-profit event, and all fees are projected solely based on the organising cost of the event, hence there is no excess that could potentially be used for this purpose. We strongly encourage participants to search for funding from outside organisations. A number of our participants receive some sort of funding from their home universities as well as from local NGOs, corporations and governmental sectors in their communities.

Changes of arrangements

We request that all participants follow the arrangements that have been made for eBKF7. Any requests for changes of arrangements which will affect the event will not be entertained as prior agreements have been made between UNIMAS and the community. However, in the event of unavoidable circumstances, the organizers will try to accommodate requests to the best they can.
