Title : Design of grid connected solar photovoltaic system

Workshop details :

Workshop objectives:
i. Understand the basic design principles of different type of PV systems.
ii. Understand the key factors that affect on grid connected PV system sizing.
iii. Understand the general sizing steps of grid connected PV system.
iv. Get an overview of available PV system design and sizing tools.
The workshop covers information about grid-connected solar PV systems as well as a step-by-step procedure to design of grid-connected PV systems which include solar PV modules, inverter and associated equipment that is suitable for Malaysia climate conditions. The sizing of each of solar PV systems components will be elaborate with numerous working examples. 
Workshop Outcome
Upon completion of the workshop, participants should be able to: 
i. Locate the sun position at any given location and time, interpret sun path diagrams.
ii. Interpret I-V curves, understand the impact of temperature and solar insolation on I-V curves.
iii. Determine the operating point of basic electrical loads connected directly to a PV module or array. 
iv. Design a grid-connected PV system, including the determination of PV array required, configuration of PV array and selection of balance of system (BOS).
Workshop contents:
Unit 1 (1Hour 30 Minutes): Balance of systems (BoS)
Unit 2 (1 Hour 30 Minutes): Dimensioning of PV array and grid interactive inverter.
Unit 3 (1 Hour): Tutorial and discussion


 Workshop 2 (Package B)

Title : Internet of Things (IoT): Concept, Benefits and System Design for Local Ecosystem

Workshop details :

Workshop objectives:
i. Introduce the concept and benefits of Internet of Things (IoT).
ii. Discuss the architecture, standards and components of IoT.
iii. Analyze the key areas of applications and future infrastructure of IoT.
iv. Impart knowledge on IoT system design for agriculture sectors and IR4.0.
v. Deliberate on methods of self-assessment of current practices; and readiness to undertake IoT commitments.
This workshop covers the introduction to the Internet of Things (IoT), and the convergence of IoT with Cloud Computing and Big Data. The implementation of IoT system in sectors such as agriculture, smart buildings, manufacturing industry, environment, and medical etc. will be discussed; and how IoT is expected to change these sectors will also be included in the discussion. Participants will learn the concept of IoT, its architecture and standards and ways it can be designed for local environments to optimize production and services that could benefits the local players. The important components of IoT such as sensors, microcontrollers, programing techniques and platform will be introduced to the participants. Deliberations on IoT and big data analysis to increase important local sectors especially in agriculture and manufacturing sectors are also included in this workshop. The challenges and threat faced by IoT system will also be covered. At the end of the workshop participants will be able to understand the conceptually design of the IoT system for local ecosystem, and understand the current and future benefits of IoT.

Upon completion of the workshop, participants should be able to:
i. Identify the essential components of IoT and the convergence with cloud computing and big data analysis
ii. Articulate the benefits and outcomes of IoT to the organizations and customers.
iii. Understand how to build a great outcomes-based IoT-enabled technology.
iv. Have the right framework to align traditional approaches and consensus between operational, technical and practices of modern farming and IR4.0.
v. Conduct a self-assessment on the current practices and IoT readiness to undertake the IoT commitment.
vi. Understand the value of IoT and modern practices to optimize local ecosystem.
vii. Understand the challenges and threats in implementing IoT system.

Unit 2 (1 Hour 30 Minutes): Developing solutions with IoT
  • Converging IoT with Cloud and Big data.
  • Optimizing Agriculture products and best practices for modern farmers based on IoT.
  • Implementation of IoT for IR4.0.
  • Challenges and issues.
Unit 3 (1 Hour): Real-time demo of IoT system for agriculture
  • Sensors and Microcontrollers design.
  • Arduino and Raspberry Pi Programing.
  • Google cloud and Thinkspeak.
  • AI algorithm for Big Data Analysis.
